  Did your JW social life only consist of meals at a friends home?

  i know many here who have had good and bad jw social experiences.

  some went camping, hiking etc, went to the beach.

  some had no social life at all in the org and some had congregations where nothing ever happened socially.. i know of one sister, who has since left, who complained that the only thing witnesses did when they got together, was share a meal.. now, there's nothing wrong with sharing a meal.

  30 years ago the social occassions of JWs were more numerous and more fun. There were picnics with softball, skating parties, parties with music and dancing. Nothing outstanding, but everyone was invited and it was good for families. We had many parties for the children as our childen were growing up.

  Then they started putting a stop to "large gatherings" and quit allowing people to put notices of social events on the bulliten board at the hall. So this just encouraged the problem that all congregations have and that is cliques. Now many are left out and I can't say that at the end of my association there that I was truly close to anyone. Unless you're pioneer or servant status, you were looked down upon as weak.

  is he right or wrong?.

  during his talk, the circuit overseer asked what kinds of negative information get spread about jehovah's witnesses.

  of course, the question was rheoctorical, the audience didn't answer.

  They may believe in Jesus but they certainly do not follow his example. He was too kind and forgiving for their tastes. They prefer an angry, vengeful God.

  And yes, they will definately let their children die for a failed blood policy that changes as the wind blows.So sad because God does not want their sacrifices, but rather mercy for their children.

  I am always looking over my shoulder to watch for family members. Then I start thinking I am crazy because why should a grown person be afraid of chatting with friends. Do we not have a right to our views? Makes me feel like a kid again and not in a good way. Just reinforces that the borg is a mind control machine.

  there seems to be a lot of stuff on here about robert king, timothy kline etc etc and i assume there is some connection.

  perhaps i'm wrong.. i am instersted to know if anyone has information about this content of this site:.

  The letter from the Watchtower states that they have letters on file that show there were no requirements for NGOs when they joined. If that is true, why not produce these letters and put this to rest? Maybe because there is no such proof. And the UN would certainly have no reason to lie about the situation, but the society does. Personally, I think this was all a part of their theocratic warfare, trying to get in good with the UN to promote the expansion of their charitable status in various countries.

  If it wasn't for COC, we would have never had a glimpse into the way the governing body actually operates-2/3 of body to approve rules. Where is god's spirit? They might as well as draw straws or roll the dice.And all those nagging questions you had about changes are answered in there. Like the donation arrangement to avoid paying taxes in US. Only someone who had been there could enlighten us how duped we were. He may have wanted to justify his position, but who doesn't after they get done with you in their primitive tribunals.

  how did you feel when you read the wts when you were still in the org.

  after the fist couple of years of being in, i avoided it as much as i could.

  it was like reading a day old newspaper over and over again.

  When I first started attending the sunday meetings, I always tried to find a way to leave before the Watchtower study because it was sooo boring. I was attending university at the time and was used to some serious study. I couldn't believe these people wanted me to study this article before I came, and then they would read it again at the meeting and then they would parrot answers. I felt like I had been demoted to elementary school. Then they would talk about how "deep" it was. I don't know why I didn't run.

  Good news: No longer an elder; Bad news: Disappointed wife

  my wife & i have a good relationship except when it comes to things dealing with the wts.

  over the past few years we've both made concessions, and i even made some headway in getting her to think about some things.

  but from time-to-time we would end up arguing about something wts-related and there would be days of tension between us.. well, a few weeks ago we were having a casual conversation about wildlife in our area, she mentioned something about jehovah ruining those who ruin the earth.

  You used your conscience to make an important decision. I hope you wife will come around. I am in a similar situation, only it's my husband who is still in. I think your wife is feeling insecure. And your family has lost a lot of prestige in the congregation by you stepping down. I know that since I stopped going, we are never invited anywhere by the JWs.

  My husband and I have frquently argued about the society. But he has come to accept that I just don't believe it anymore. There is still some tension there, but it is easing up. One thing that helped is that we both decided that we were going to stay together because we really loved each other. I wrote him a long note about how I always wanted to be with him and did not want other people spoiling what we have. I think this helped because he is slowing down in meetings and hasn't been in FS for some time. Try to reassue your wife and let her know that there is no one else for you. Avoid arguments as much as you can and just give it some time. It doesn't have to be the end.

  What is God???

  ok, so i realize that there are a large number of atheists here, of which group i am ever so slowly counting myself among, who would love to shout down the topic with 'there is no god".

  I think God is who we make him to be. Each person who believes in God sees him or her a little differently. That's why the Bible calls him the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. He was different to each one of them. But until he reveals himself totally, we only "see" him partially. I believe he is a distinct being, however.

  The Jews saw him as a warring, demanding and trite God. That is why the old testament is so hard to stomach sometimes. But if you look into the religious history of that time, he was not much different from the gods of the nations in some respects. The new testament has evolved because human thinking and beliefs had evolved. It reflected God as a much more loving and peaceful God. God had not changed, but the way people thought about him had. I think were still evolving in our knowledge of God.

  i'd like to say hello to my brother, he's going to be lurking here tonight.. i've been encouraging him to find out about the history of jws and he's been on the internet finding out a few things.

  he is as shocked as i was when i found out things about a religion we were brought up in.

  he left a little before me in 1986 i think but unlike me wasn't baptized so his exit was a bit different to mine.. we've been chatting on the fone tonight about how different we might have been if it were not for our upbringing.

  Welcome to the board. There is much information to learn if you follow along for a while. Everyone is very helpful and willing to answer any questions if they can. It is a big help to find out that all those doubts one has are there for a reason, but well hidden by the society. Also you have not failed the religion, it has failed you.

  DO THE GB 'BIND THINGS ON EARTH"?

  we all know that the the wts does not believe in the catholic church's claim to having the keys of the kingdom or to "bind on earth the things bound in heaven" as it states im matthew 16:19.. my question is: does the society teach that whatever decisions the governing body makes is "bound in heaven"?

  i tried finding something on the wt cd rom but couldn't find anything.. .

  is there an official or even unofficial view of the gb and this scripture?.

  I heard on the news that the pope was only supposed to be infallible when it came to religious dogma, which is the same as doctrine. And, of course, he can change that doctrine. What is the difference between this and the explanation of "present truth"? The witnesses believe that whatever the society teaches right now is straight from God. And only they can change it. So, whether they use this scripture or not, they do the same thing.
